Learning objectives
The current researches are focused on the development of innovative and environmental safe biotechnology for insect control. The aim of the course is to provide the fundamental knowledge of some functional and molecular processes to understand the present investigations. The main topics of the course are the functional properties of insect organs and systems target of control strategies based on the alteration of body homeostasis
Expected learning outcomes
To achieve the fundamentals of insect biotecnology for agriculture and the definition of insect biological control through the available molecular techniques.

The course, based on insect physiology and biotechnology, is focused on the following topics: The course, based on insect physiology and biotechnology, is focused on the following topics: Gut morphology and physiology. Intestinal role in bioinsecticide delivery. Hormonal regulation: endocrine system and primary hormones. Insect growth regulators (IGR) as pesticides. Parasitoids in the insect pest control and as a source of new bioinsecticides. The molecular bases of host-parasitoid interaction; examples of di- and three-trophic interactions. Plant resistance to insects. Plant-insect interaction as a source of new bioactive molecules. Insect pest control: biotechnology for insect control, Bacillus thuringiensis toxins and their mode of action. Entomopathogen virus for biological control and for bioinsecticide delivery. iRNA in insect control
