The undergraduate programme in Language Mediation and Intercultural Communication (applied to economics, law and society) aims to train language mediators who possess solid language skills - combined with a sound knowledge of cultural studies and of the principles of economics, law, and sociology - and who are therefore capable of providing inter-linguistic services in a variety of contexts, ranging from public and private institutions, to schools and vocational training centres, to companies and other organizations in which language mediation and intercultural communication are of paramount importance.
Graduates from the degree programme in Language Mediation and Intercultural Communication (applied to economics, law and society) will find career opportunities in all areas involving international relations, both at the interpersonal level and in corporate contexts (foreign relations, import/export departments, employment in the foreign offices of Italian companies, or in the offices of foreign companies in Italy), public services, and tourism and related sectors of the hospitality industry. Further opportunities are available in document search activities - both at national and at international level -, drafting memos, reports, minutes and other types of correspondence in a foreign language as well as Italian. The publishing sector also offers career prospects, ranging from the translation of texts in the domains of economics, law, sociology or cultural studies, to tourism, art publishing and journalism in general. Careers prospects exist wherever language mediation and intercultural communication activities occur in both the corporate sphere and public institutions. Additional employment opportunities are provided by partnership initiatives within the framework of international bodies and organisations, and by involvement in national and/or international projects (both at a European and at a supra-European level) requiring solid linguistic and cultural skills alongside a firm grasp of the principles of economics, sociology or law.

Il corso di laurea è ad accesso programmato. Sono requisiti di base d'accesso al corso di laurea:

- conoscenza delle strutture di base della lingua italiana;
- conoscenza di base di alcune lingue straniere comunemente insegnate anche nelle scuole superiori (incluse le lingue classiche);
- conoscenze culturali di base relative alla letteratura e cultura italiana e alle culture straniere (sempre con riferimento alle lingue e civiltà comunemente insegnate nelle scuole superiori). Gli insegnamenti del corso di laurea si riferiscono infatti prevalentemente alla contemporaneità, e dunque danno per acquisite cognizioni relative allo sviluppo diacronico delle culture studiate.

Accesso per i curricula Attività internazionali e multiculturali (AIM) e Attività linguistiche interculturali (ALI)
· Il corso di laurea definirà la graduatoria degli studenti ammissibili in base al voto conseguito nell'esame finale della scuola media superiore. Saranno ammessi i primi 630 studenti che abbiano conseguito un voto non inferiore a 80/100 nel suddetto esame. Qualora non tutti gli aventi diritto procedessero all'immatricolazione, i posti rimasti verranno assegnati in base alla graduatoria, fino ad esaurire i posti disponibili o a esaurire gli aventi diritto con voto non inferiore a 80/100.
· Qualora il numero degli studenti in graduatoria che hanno conseguito la votazione di 80/100 risultasse inferiore al numero dei posti disponibili, il corso di laurea ammetterà anche gli studenti con voto inferiore, fino a saturare il contingente previsto.
· Esclusivamente in questi ultimi casi il corso di laurea soddisferà gli obblighi derivanti dal primo comma dell'art. 6 del DM 270 tramite la valutazione della carriera personale dello studente all'atto dell'immatricolazione, desumendola anche dalle votazioni ottenute dagli interessati nel primo quadrimestre del quinto anno della scuola superiore e all'ammissione alla maturità (votazioni indicate mediante autocertificazione) nelle seguenti materie: italiano; un'altra lingua a scelta (incluse le lingue classiche). Tali discipline sono infatti ritenute essenziali per comprendere se lo studente abbia acquisito competenze in relazione ai requisiti formativi indicati nell'art. 2 dell'Ordinamento del corso di studio. Sulla base di tale esame delle carriere, che sarà affidato a commissioni di tutor nominate dal corso di laurea, saranno individuati eventuali debiti da colmare entro il primo anno, secondo le seguenti modalità: attività curricolari, di laboratori e di tutorato. Gli studenti che non saranno ritenuti in possesso di adeguata preparazione iniziale saranno convocati per un colloquio di orientamento dalle commissioni di tutor, che li avvieranno alle attività di cui sopra, al termine delle quali verrà valutato se lo studente ha colmato i suoi eventuali debiti formativi.

Accesso per il curriculum Lingua e cultura italiana per mediatori linguistici stranieri (STRANIMEDIA)
· L'accesso per questo curriculum è riservato esclusivamente a studenti di nazionalità non italiana, in possesso di titolo di studio conseguito all'estero.
· Il curriculum si rivolge a studenti stranieri già in possesso di una buona conoscenza della lingua italiana, pari al livello B1 del Quadro Comune Europeo (QCE); tale conoscenza sarà verificata mediante un apposito test.
· Qualora il numero degli studenti in possesso di tale livello di conoscenza della lingua italiana risultasse inferiore al numero degli studenti ammissibili deliberato annualmente, il corso di laurea ammetterà anche studenti con conoscenze inferiori al livello B1, fino a saturare il contingente previsto. Anche in tali casi il corso di laurea individuerà i debiti formativi da colmare entro il primo anno, mediante apposite attività didattiche e di tutorato.
Within the framework of the Erasmus programme, 56 exchange agreements are in place, covering 17 European countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Malta, Norway, the Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, United Kingdom, Spain, Sweden, Hungary, plus Switzerland, which participates in the Erasmus + programme as a partner country. Additionally, Erasmus traineeship agreements have also been signed with companies and institutions in some of the above-mentioned countries.

Additionally, a number of exchange agreements are in place with partner universities in non-European countries. Under these agreements, students have the opportunity to attend classes and take exams at partner institutions. Such activities and exam results may be validated in full or in part, with the corresponding credits concurring to fulfil the requirements for the attainment of the degree. Besides the Erasmus exchange agreements, the Course also has two double degree programs in place whereby participating students earn degrees from both institutions:

- The double degree program with the Universidad of Valladolid: Students accepted in the double degree program obtain an Italian degree in Language Mediation and Intercultural Communication, and a Spanish degree in either Interpreting and Translation (if studying at the Soria campus) or in English Studies (if studying at the Universdad de Valladolid main campus). UNIMI students admitted to the double degree program spend the second year of their course at the Università di Valladolid (and viceversa). - The double degree program with AMU - Aix Marseille Université, awards students a degree in Language Mediation and Intercultural Communication issued from UNIMI and a degree in Langues étrangères appliquées - LEA, issued by AMU. In the first year students choose two languages and their respective cultures, which will be studied for the entire three years of the course. To sit the exams of the next year, (e. g., Language II or Culture II), students must pass the exams for the preceding year (e.g., Language I or Culture I).

As regards the choice of the Culture component, note that:
1. French language students can choose between French Culture and Francophone cultures. This choice has to be made starting in the first year and adhered to for the whole of the degree course;
2. in their second year of the Culture component, Students of English language can choose between British Culture II, Anglo-american Culture and Anglophone Cultures. British Culture I serves as an obligatory preparatory course for Anglo-American Culture and Cultures of English Speaking Countries;
3. students of Spanish can choose between Spanish Culture and Cultures of Spanish Speaking Countries. The choice must be made starting from the first year and maintained for all three years of the degree course.
