Learning objectives
The workshop is aimed at first- and second-year students of the degree program in Languages and Literatures for education, criticism, and translation. The workshop provides in-depth knowledge of the methods and tools for teaching literature, particularly foreign literature, in secondary schools. The focus will be on the following aspects: the epistemological foundations of the discipline; a critical reflection on the most widely used textbooks; tools and digital technologies designed to facilitate learning; literary genres; the centrality of the literary text; and the organization and creation of a teaching unit according to ministerial guidelines.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the workshop, students will have acquired skills related to the teaching of foreign literature, with particular emphasis on tools, technologies, planning, and the creation of a teaching unit. They will also have developed critical and argumentative skills in relation to the study of literary genres and the analysis of literary texts.

Course syllabus
The workshop consists of eleven lessons aimed at providing both theoretical and practical tools for teaching literature in Italian upper secondary schools. In particular, the following aspects will be addressed: an in-depth overview of the Italian school system and current educational regulations; the use of textbooks and other teaching materials in the classroom; teaching practices for the analysis of poetic, narrative, and dramatic texts, with particular attention to digital tools; interdisciplinary and intermedial approaches to literature teaching; and the creation and implementation of teaching units.
Prerequisites for admission
Students enrolled in the 1st or 2nd year of the degree program in Languages and Literatures for Education, Criticism, and Translation; knowledge of literary history and skills in literary text analysis.

The workshop includes lectures and practical sessions.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The workshop is worth 3 ECTS credits; credits are awarded to students who receive a "pass" evaluation; grades are not given on a scale out of thirty. Students will be assessed based on their active participation in class and the completion of a final assignment, which will consist of the written drafting of a proposed teaching unit, to be discussed with the course instructors. Attendance is mandatory to earn the 3 ECTS credits; only one unexcused absence is allowed. Any further absences, due to valid reasons, must be communicated in advance to the instructors.
