Learning objectives
The aim of the Laboraory is to provide tools for ecological analysis (multiscale and multitemporal) of the territory, to learn how to assess environmental quality and identify strategies for environmental improvement and restoration, applying Nature Based Solutions.

ANALISI ECOLOGICA DEL PAESAGGIO

The module aims to provide students with the fundamentals of general ecology, climatology and bioclimatology, pedology and geobotany (flora and vegetation) in order to tackle ecological analyses of the landscape at different spatial and temporal scales. Topics related to naturalness, biodiversity and ecosystem services will also be addressed in order to estimate environmental quality and performance.

ECOLOGIA DEL PAESAGGIO APPLICATA AL PROGETTO

The module aims to provide students with the fundamentals of general ecology, climatology and bioclimatology, pedology and geobotany (flora and vegetation) in order to tackle ecological analyses of the landscape at different spatial and temporal scales. Topics related to naturalness, biodiversity and ecosystem services will also be addressed in order to estimate environmental quality and performance.

STRUMENTI INFORMATICI PER LE ANALISI DI PAESAGGIO

The module provides the basic analytical tools for correctly interpreting the metric and descriptive content of historical and contemporary cartography. In particular, the following topics will be addressed from a theoretical point of view: reference systems and coordinate systems; main projection and cartographic representation systems; general concepts of digital cartography; techniques for digitising historical cartography; the concept of scale in drawn maps and digital cartography; official Italian cartography and regional, provincial and municipal technical maps; representation of altimetry in drawn maps and digital cartography. The theoretical lessons will be accompanied by a series of practical examples that will allow students to acquire the basic skills for managing digital cartography in a GIS environment.
Expected learning outcomes
Students are expected to learn how to analyse a piece of territory on various spatial and temporal scales, quantify certain ecological parameters, and identify vulnerabilities and resilience in order to identify ecological planning strategies.

ANALISI ECOLOGICA DEL PAESAGGIO

Students are expected to learn how to analyse the main natural and anthropogenic components of the territory and assess their quality and critical issues.

ECOLOGIA DEL PAESAGGIO APPLICATA AL PROGETTO

Students are expected to learn how to use landscape ecology and ecosystem services tools to analyse landscapes and learn the principles of ecological planning.

STRUMENTI INFORMATICI PER LE ANALISI DI PAESAGGIO

Students are expected to learn how to use IT tools such as GIS and to create ad hoc thematic maps.
Single course

This course cannot be attended as a single course. Please check our list of single courses to find the ones available for enrolment.

Course syllabus and organization

Single session

Responsible
Lesson period
First semester
The distance learning course can be delivered via Microsoft TEAM, with possible outdoor activities (following appropriate spacing)
Prerequisites for admission
Basic concepts of General Ecology, Botany, Cartography, Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The final examination consists of a joint examination of the three modules by means of a presentation of the group work (technical report and A1 tables relating to the analyses and evaluations and proposed plan of the study area). Individual knowledge may also be verified through specific questions in written or oral form.
