Learning objectives
The aim of the workshop is to analyse Karl Marx'e text: Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844. The text will be studied taking into account Marx's other works and the historical context of reference. The different interpretations given by subsequent authors will then be considered. Through these analyses it will be possible to reflect on some key concepts of the twentieth-century theoretical-political debate (alienation, freedom, democracy) and to evaluate their effects on the contemporary debate. Seminar group work and debate will be the methods used in the meetings. Students will be able to learn to use the main philosophical concepts in a clear and comprehensible manner and to argue coherently.
Expected learning outcomes
The workshop aims to develop the following skills:

Critical thinking skills:
By the end of the workshop, students will display a sufficiently independent critical approach in selecting and interpreting the notions that are most relevant their area of study and to the broader socio-cultural context in which they operate

Communication skills:
By the end of the workshop:
- students will be able to effectively communicate the acquired knowledge and disseminate it to the general public;
- student will have developed basic IT skills concerning knowledge preservation and transfer.

Learning skills:
By the end of the workshop, students will have developed the learning skills required to continue their studies in keeping with their own research interests. In order to meet this objective, students will also develop relevant skills in the independent interpretation of sources and in the use of basic IT tool for bibliographic research.

Teaching Workshop:
The Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844 by Karl Marx

The laboratory aims to analyze a classic text of political theory and philosophy: the Economic-Philosophical Manuscripts of 1844 by Karl Marx.
- The text will first be contextualized in the author's production and in its evolution. Some of the earlier works such will be considered.
- In order to fully understand the text, the relationship that Marx's thought, especially in the Manuscripts, entertains with that of G.W.F. Hegel and L. Feuerbach will be analyzed.
- It will then be possible to analyze some categories of Marxian thought that emerge in the text of 1844.
- Finally, the role played by the Manuscripts in the twentieth-century Marxist debate will be evaluated and discussed, analyzing some of the most famous interpretations.
