Teaching Workshop: Advanced Philosophical Workshop 3

Learning objectives
Students will gain an understanding of the history and theories of XR technologies, as well as related critical debates, with particular reference to Augmented Reality and its applications in the military, corporate, and wider cultural spheres. Particular attention will be paid to different forms of contemporary artworks being produced today using mobile phones, helmets and augmented reality glasses. The workshop aims at developing the following skills: the ability to critically analyse the specific characteristics of these media and the debate surrounding them; knowledge of the areas of application, benefits and risks associated with their use; the ability to articulate an interdisciplinary reflection applied to specific case studies.
Expected learning outcomes
The workshop aims to develop the following skills:
Critical thinking skills:
By the end of the workshop, students will display a sufficiently independent critical approach in selecting and interpreting the notions that are most relevant their area of study and to the broader socio-cultural context in which they operate
Communication skills:
By the end of the workshop:
- students will be able to effectively communicate the acquired knowledge and disseminate it to the general public;
- student will have developed basic IT skills concerning knowledge preservation and transfer.
Learning skills:
By the end of the workshop, students will have developed the learning skills required to continue their studies in keeping with their own research interests. In order to meet this objective, students will also develop relevant skills in the independent interpretation of sources and in the use of basic IT tool for bibliographic research.

Title: Digital Emersions. From War to Contemporary Art in Augmented Reality
March 8th- What is technology doing to us? Methods and authors for a philosophical investigation of technology.
March 22nd- Archaeology of emergence: phantasmagoria, spirit photography, and contemporary forms of spatial augmentation.
April 5th- War at a distance: creativity and new technologies of destruction.
April 12th- Contemporary art and augmented reality.
April 19th- Everyday superpowers and personal devices.
All meetings will take place from 10.30 AM to 14.30 PM.

Prerequisites for admission
No preliminary requirement.
Teaching methods
The meetings include a lecture part, a workshop part with the opportunity to try out some experiences in VR and AR, and a discussion part on the topics covered.
Teaching Resources
Learning materials will be made available at the beginning of the course and include PPT presentations for each meeting and relevant bibliographical references.
Assessment methods and Criteria
Students are required to actively participate in all the meetings. Besides taking part in the debate, they will be assessed on the basis of a short paper about a topic discussed during the meetings.
