Learning objectives
The aim of the esercitazioni (i.e., practical classes added to the course but that do not allow to accrue ECTS), is that students acquire and develop written, oral, interaction and mediation skills, in accordance with levels described by the Common European Framework of Reference for languages. Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR) and its subsequent revisions and updates.
Expected learning outcomes
The expected result in terms of applied competence is the achievement of the level specified for every year for all linguistic-communicative activities: reception (listening and reading), production of written and oral texts, interaction and mediation. The entrance level is detailed in the Prerequisites (none), while the expected goal is detailed in the Syllabus. Students are expected to spend time on self-study to prepare for classes and to review and consolidate work done in class.

The aim is to reach CEFR language level A2 .
The exercises with native speakers are aimed at acquiring and practising the fundamentals of German grammar in writing and orally: conjunctions, prepositions, negation, nominal declension and verbal conjugation, active and passive of strong and weak verbs, modal verbs, secondary propositions. In addition, the exercises aim to achieve a basic communicative competence in German. Topics covered: countries, nationalities and languages; weather (time, days, months, seasons, date), family, professions and work, leisure, clothes and colours, eating and drinking, restaurant, shopping, flat, body and health, city and nature, animals and plants, weather, holidays, school and university, vocational training, character and description of a person, means of transport, parties.
Prerequisites for admission
- excellent competence in the Italian language;
- consolidated knowledge of Italian grammar;
- consolidated knowledge of grammatical terminology.
Teaching methods
The course includes seminar activities and group work in which the active participation of the student is required as well as the use of multimedia materials.

Assessment methods and Criteria
Preliminary written test + oral test:
Written test in official session + oral test in official session. The written test verifies the knowledge of the basic vocabulary and the fundamentals of German grammar (level A2/B1) and the ability to understand and produce a simple text. The oral test is an interview in German with the mother tongue teacher. Students with a valid certification at level B1 or higher do not have to take the written exam and the oral exam of exercises (the certification must be presented for recognition to the teacher in charge of the course according to the instructions given in class at the beginning of the A.A.).
Further information on the structure and content of the written partials will be provided in class.
The final grade for German Language 1 (exercises + monographic part) is given by the following partial grades: average grade for the written part of the exercises and the grade for the oral part of the exercises and the oral part of the monographic part.
As regards the duration of the validity of the written part marks (exercises and monographic part) and of the written examination of exercises (official session), indications will be given in class and on the teaching site (Ariel portal).

Assessment methods and Criteria

The oral test is an interview in German with the native speaker teacher. Students in possession of valid certification of B1 level or higher do not have to take the written examination and the oral examination of exercises (certification must be presented for recognition to the course lecturer in accordance with the instructions given in class at the beginning of the A.A.).
The final grade for German Language 1 (exercises + monograph part) is made up of the following partial grades: the average of grade for the written exercises and the grade for the oral exercises, grade for the oral monograph part. Further clarifications will be provided in class and on the teaching website (Ariel portal).
As regards the validity of the marks for the written partial (monographic part) and the written practice exam (official session), information will be provided in class and on the teaching website (Ariel portal).

In addition to the basic grammar already learned in the first year, students will have to master the following morpho-syntactic structures: declension and comparison of the adjective and participle as an attribute; complements and syntagms of place and time; regency of verbs; subordinate sentences; prepositional and adverbial syntagms; syntagms with genitive; collocations and Funktionsverbgefüge; infinitives; regular and irregular forms of preterite; verbs with prepositions and prefix; names, adjectives and adverbs with prepositions and prefix; passive; conjunctive.

The practical classes are divided into a group of students who attended the intermediate-advanced classes in the first year, and two groups of students who were beginners in the first year, divided by surname: group A (A-K), group B (L-Z).
Prerequisites for admission
Practical classes will be taught entirely in German. Textbooks and activities in class or for self study assume that students already have a linguistic competence of level A2.

Course syllabus
The exercises with the native speaker (4 hours per week), for which regular attendance is required, are aimed at improving oral and written language skills, with the aim of achieving level B2 of the Common European Framework. Oral and written texts are examined in depth and oral interaction skills are practised. They last one year and take place in semesters I and II with Eleonora Dal Piaz (eleonora.dalpiaz@unimi.it).
Prerequisites for admission
Practical classes will be taught entirely in German. Textbooks and activities in class or for self study assume that students already have a linguistic competence of level B1.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The examination consists of a written test + an oral test, both of which are compulsory.

A) ANNUAL WRITTEN EXAMINATION:
For the written examination there are three exam sessions: May/June 2024, September 2024 and January 2025. The exam is considered passed if the mark in both written tests is at least 18/30.
Part 1: Grammatik und Wortschatz test based on the first and second semester syllabus (without the use of dictionaries)
Part 2: Textwiedergabe. Listening and guided summary (vorgabenorientientierte Textproduktion) of a newspaper article (Die Zeit, FAZ, Spiegel et al.) of approx. 650 words. During listening the student can take notes. They will then proceed with the summary of the content using their own words and respecting the key points indicated (Leitpunkte) on the examination sheet (approx. 250 words).
The German monolingual paper dictionary can be used for the Textwiedergabe. Foreign students of a mother tongue other than Italian may agree with the teacher to use an Italian mother tongue vocabulary.
B) ORAL EXAMINATION
Präsentation (a 10-minute presentation in German) on a topic of your choice, followed by a discussion in German with the native speaker on the topic. It is advisable to propose topics relating to German-speaking countries and to make arrangements with the teachers in good time if necessary. Short notes are also available during the examination, but no reading of texts and/or summaries is allowed. Graphics/statistics/PPP can be shown.
