Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with a critical knowledge of the main religious buildings of Milan between fourth and thirteenth centuries in their cultural and historical context.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the seminar the student will know the artistic and architectonic elements of the Milanese buildings in the general context of medieval art. Moreover, the student will be able to demonstrate his study and comprehension of specific bibliography by presenting some artistic aspects or works of art during the guided lessons on the sites.

Course syllabus
The teaching workshop is dedicated to the artistic developments of Milan in the Middle Ages and aims to introduce the students to a direct approach to the cultural heritage of the city. During a preliminary lecture in classroom, beyond organizational information, a historical overview of the selected case studies will be provided. During the educational visits, students are required to prepare short presentations on topics that will be agreed in advance. Students will give further presentations during a final lecture in classroom.
Prerequisites for admission
The teaching workshop is reserved to the Bachelor's degree in Studies in Cultural Heritage.
Teaching methods
The first and the last lesson will be frontal in classroom. The other lessons will take place at the selected sites and monuments. The teaching workshop has a seminar character and requires the active participation of the students, who will give presentations during the educational visits and during a final lesson in classroom. A constant attendance is recommended (attendance at the first lesson in the classroom is essential).

The bibliography, available at the libraries of the University, will be indicated by the teacher during the first lesson.
Assessment methods and Criteria
Students are required to give short presentations during the educational visits, as well as during a final lesson in classroom.
