Course syllabus
Within the Coordinated Research Center "Tarquinia Project", the training program focuses on forming archaeologists from a standpoint of cooperation between different disciplines applied to the archaeological context (archaeology, archaeozoology, physical anthropology, paleobotany, geoarchaeology, archaeometry, data computing). Through collaboration with Politecnico di Milano, sanctioned by an agreement within the CRC, much space is devoted to the training in the field of architectural and topographic documentation. The know-how is provided by experts in the disciplines involved, with significant impact from a methodological standpoint.
The excavation activity centered on stratigraphic units and mobile finds taking place in the first part of the day is followed by an hour-long educational section held by experts in the different aforementioned fields (archaeozoology, physical anthropology, paleobotany, geoarchaeology). The second part of the day involves activity of data processing, based on the archaeological record acquired during the previous digging. Weekly excursions to the Pianoro della Civita are planned in order to better contextualize the field work, as well as sessions dedicated to dissemination of scientific knowledge to the local community and to the general public, also through web channels in compliance with the obligations of the Third Mission of Italian Universities.
