Pathophysiology of Wild Animals

Learning objectives
Il corso si propone di fornire le informazioni utili per comprendere al meglio la fisiopatologia delle popolazioni selvatiche a vita libera con particolare riferimento per le cause di malattia di maggior interesse per la fauna selvatica e alcune peculiari condizioni quali lo stress antropico, la cattura e il rilascio, la malnutrizione, l'ibernazione. A questa parte seguirà un approfondimento pratico eseguito in laboratorio (nel quale ci si soffermerò sul possibile uso degli esami di laboratorio per il monitoraggio delle specie a vita libera) e alcune uscite didattiche.

General etiology with particular interest for wild animals: Effects of temperature, traumatic lesions, chemicals, alimentary, parasites, bacteria, viruses, ereditary causes (4 h)
Stress: definition and pathogenesis , acute and chronic stress, freezing behaviour, antropic stress (4h)
Capture, methods and effects on metabolism, shock, capture myopaty (2h)

Termoregulation and hybernation. Pathophysiology and related diseases (2h)
Use of laboratory tests in wild animals. Preanalytical biases, differences among species, seasons, functional perido in major laboratory tests. (2h)
