Learning objectives
The aim of the workshop is to provide students with a methodology for reading, analysing and interpreting historiographical sources and epigraphic documents, with particular attention to the history of the Mediterranean area in Roman times.
Expected learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the workshop, the students will have acquired the necessary tools for reading, understanding and interpreting historiographical and epigraphic sources in the study of ancient history.

Course syllabus
The workshop will focus on analyzing certain aspects of the history of the Mediterranean basin during the Roman period (3rd century BC - 3rd century AD). Particular attention will be paid to historical, political, economic, social, and religious issues. The analysis will take an interdisciplinary approach, using literary, epigraphic, papyrological, numismatic, and archaeological sources, with the help of digital tools for collecting documentary sources.
Prerequisites for admission
Knowledge of Greek and Latin is preferential, but not mandatory.
Teaching methods
During the workshop, alongside lectures, students will be invited to present research topics that will be assigned to them, as well as actively participate in classroom discussions and practical exercises.
Teaching Resources
The slides with the sources used during the lessons and the suggested bibliographic material will be made available on the MyAriel site of the laboratory.
Assessment methods and Criteria
Regular attendance and participation will be assessed, as well as the completion of the assigned short presentation. The final result of the workshop will be Pass or Fail.
