History of Nineteenth- and Twentieth-Century Philosophy

Learning objectives
This course aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the main themes, traditions, and key figures of philosophical thought in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with particular attention to the interdisciplinary developments that characterize this period and to a close study of foundational texts.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- identify the fundamental lines of philosophical thought in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries
- recognize the philosophical vocabulary, concepts, and argumentative forms used by the authors
- describe the basic methodological tools, including digital tools, of historiographical research.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- place authors and texts in their historical context
- apply their knowledge of philosophical vocabulary, concepts, and argumentative forms to the analysis and discussion of texts and problems
- express the concepts learned clearly and effectively
- apply the acquired knowledge to the analysis of new textual and theoretical material.
