Learning objectives
The course examines the principles and methods of landscape ecology and provides the key concepts for landscape interpretation and analysis from an ecological and environmental perspective, at different spatial and temporal scales. After an introduction to general concepts of Plant Ecology, Flora and Vegetation, the fundamentals of landscape elements (patches, matrices and corridors) and the properties of the ecomosaic are examined by analysing basic ecological processes, flows and dynamism.
Expected learning outcomes
It is expected that at the end of the course students will acquire the basic concepts of landscape ecology useful for the study and interpretation of landscapes (with particular regard to plant landscapes) and for ecological landscape design in natural, agricultural and urban environments.
