Learning objectives
The archaeological excavation of advanced level strengthens technical-professionalizing tools acquired in the archaeological excavation of basic level. The main goal of the laboratory is to enable students to find employment in archaeological excavation fields as skilled worker at the end of the training course.
Expected learning outcomes
The workshop teaches students how to produce graphic and photographic documentation of archaeological evidence and how to use optical and electronic equipment for topographical relief, such as total station and theodolite.

Compatibly with the evolution of the emergency situation linked to Covid-19, the excavation laboratory will take place in presence.
Course syllabus
In 2021 the excavation laboratory will be held on 2-15 August (to be confirmed). It provides for the revision and arrangement of the material boxes in the warehouse; inventory of architectural elements in the field; integration of documentation (photos and reliefs). Field activities and practical lessons are foreseen, in which the problems of the excavation will be illustrated to the students; will be taught how to create graphic and photographic documentation of archaeological structures and stratigraphic units and how to use tools such as total station and theodolite; lectures on ceramic materials will be held.
Prerequisites for admission
Students must have already carried out a didactic archaeological excavation laboratory, already having excavation experiences.
Teaching methods
Preliminary meetings are planned with lectures on safety on the excavation and on the history of Gortina, at the University, and lessons directly on the excavation site.
